brake lights always on

I have recently fitted a brand new driver side tailight fitting to my 5reg 3 Saxo VTR. When I turn my lights on the brake light on the new fitting is permanantly on. It uses the same bulb as the standard back light so it should dim down a bit when the brake is not being pressed but it doesn't, its always bright! I can tell that its always on when I compare it with the passenger side brake light. How can I sort it out??

Take th bulb out, turn it 180 degrees and re-inset it.
