Quiet Time Switch?

I have got a couple of table lamps in my living room that I have on timers, the kind with a dial on with little peg things that plug into the wall socket and the lamp plug plugs into that. The problem is that when they go off, they click really loudly which isn't conducive to a serene atmosphere.

Does anyone know of timer switches that turn on and off quietly please? I am happy to pay a bit to get what i want.

you canusually get electronic ones that are rather more complicated for about £3-£4 in Robert Dyas but try poundland first.

Lots of them available - digital display usually. Can be a bit complicated, so DON'T LOSE the instructions!

Just read the descriptions carefully - some contain a thermostat - which you don't want

I have those digital ones mentioned and there is still a click when it turns on and off.

Thank you for all your comments....there are loads to chose from and the reviews all seem to have a review or two or three that say "this is rubbish" ; except for the ones that aren't in stock wouldn't you know it?? Has anyone got any personal recommendations please, in particular regarding how quiet they are?

I got a retractable USB to iPod charging cable in Poundland (for a quid, naturally!). It works just as well as those costing a tenner or more.

indeed heathfield, but you don't stick that in a mains socket, walk away and leave it!

The electrical products sold in Poundland do have to conform with EU safety standards. I have have never had problems with poundland electrical proucts. Paying more for an identical item elswhere doesn't make it any safer.

I don't know about them switching on and off quietly, I would think that because the lamp has to be switched on it would make a click (or maybe I'm wrong there).

Re poundland I bought a Ethernet cable from them and has been as good as the dearer one I got previously.

ferryman the lamp stays switched on at the lamp. The click comes from the timer. Central heating timers and boiler timers click but they do it quietly.

I got mine from Wilkinsons. Took a while to set it up, don't loose the instructions, but is reliable.
How can you describe a click, I don't know, it's just an electrical click sound. Not too loud but obviously I can hear it.

It would bother me, I am hugely sensitive to odd sounds and they disturb my peace and peaceful sleep enormously. I can even be woken by the sound of the digitoxin doing an update at 3am.

woofgang...... I may have missed something, but why have you got table lamps on timers.? Understandable if they are on timers for when the house is unoccupied; but then noise factors would not matter.
