I intend to replace the dimmer switch in my living room
The switches come in two options 200 and 400 watts
How do I know which one I need?

You need to work out the wattage of the lights it is dimming I.e. 4x60w lights = 240w load so you would need the 400w type.
You add up the wattage of the bulbs that the switch is going to dim and choose the dimmer switch with at least that number.
eg, your dimmer operates only 1 100watt bulb - you need the 200watt dimmer switch.
your dimmer operates 6 x 60 watt bulbs = 360watt - you need the 400watt dimmer.
Look at the lights controlled by the dimmer, and add up the wattages. Simple as that, ric.ror :o)
