We have an external toilet with a wooden door and frame which has become very wet due to heavy rain recently. All the wood looks OK but now the door will not close and I can't see it drying out in the near future. What is the best recommendation or do I just throw it all way and have new. I doubt I'm the only one with this sort of problem these days. This has never happened in the past.

Your obvious option would be to get a UPVC replacement, then you wouldn't have that problem again.....

Could you just put up with it until the summer, then it will dry out. Then you can ensure it is fitting OK before giving it a few good coats of gloss to prevent the same happening next winter.

depending on the location, if you're going to replace it consider fitting a stable door to take advantage of the view if appropriate.
Have a similar problem with our back garden gate. I personally am going to leave it for a few weeks, hopefully it will dry out enough and go back to normal. I was told many years ago if you rub a candle of the part that is rubbing it will help a bit with the sticking. If problem is still there in the spring then just plane a small amount off. If all the wood is good seems a shame to change it.
It is a personal decision as to what you do. If it is soaked now then that must be because the wood wasn't protected properly so far. I think in your shoes (having not seen the door) I'd wait until it was dried out and then decide whether to plane it down and protect it properly, or whether to replace it instead.
It's the "door kicking" season of the year Joe. Usually at the bottom of the door. It's not usually very much, just a couple of shavings with a wood plane.

It's worth doing, otherwise you soon begin to have trouble with warping the door and pulling off the handles etc.

There's a lot of it about :o)
We've had this a lot with our wooden stable style back door. It does dry back in the summer but we had to keep planing it back. Eventually we replaced it with the same kind of door. UPVC is not the most stylish thing to have :-)

Thank you all. I will wait until it is all all dry. I think the wood is all in good condition and if not I will probably replace but will prefer grp rather than upvc. Cheers to all.
