Accenta 8 Burglar Alarm Problem - Tamper Light

Hi, please can anyone help

I have a ADE Accenta 8 alarm mini, on the keypad it says Accenta+. The keypad version I have does not have a digital display

I came home from work today and the alarm was not set - the tamper light was showing and also the power light. There has been no security breach, and no power cut. The tamper light is lit constantly, not flashing.

I can press buttons, but it just beeps at me. I tried 9999 and 0123. The 9999 did register, and pressing reset caused the daytime light to come on, but the tamper light did not disappear. Aside from the code 9999, no other code is registering.

The main control unit, located away from the keypad in a cupboard has not been disturbed, It has a power light, and on close inspection tonight this red power light looks a little dull, although it is lit.

Does the main power unit have some sort of battery inside?

I was worried about opening the front of the main unit in case I set the alarm off and can't stop it, but if there is a battery I need to know what it looks like so I can buy one & replace it

I am hoping that it is something I can fix myself as although an alarm man deserves to make an honest wage to be honest I just had to pay £300 for an MOT today so this alarm thing has thrown me in a quandary & I'm fretting a bit!

Any advise would be gratefully received

The battery is usually a 12volt yaesu type, long with lugs on each end. Like this one: http://cpc.farnell.com/yuasa/2-1-12/battery-lead-acid-12v-2-1ah/dp/BT01940
A bit of research online will bring up the exact type.
You will need the 'engineer' code to enter to stop the alarm sounding when you lift the front panel on the control unit.
The batteries usually last around 5 to 7 years.
Get the type of battery bought, find the engineer code, grab the screwdriver set and you're good to go !

Also, these alarms do have silicon chips in them and can sometimes (very rare) 'crash' like a computer, needing a reset. Usually a nasty power spike can send them on a wobbler. Worth bearing in mind ...

Hmm, I'd best wait until weekend to take the front panel off just in case the alarm doesn't stop.

I've not had my alarm in for 5 years, but it's better I try a battery first before I try anything else

before you do take any panels off, how old is the alarm? dig out the paperwork and check if there's any warranty cover on it still ... was it a professional fitment?

It was a professional fitting but I can't remember which firm did it...can't find any paperwork. A lost mobile phone in the past means there's no contact in phone either. I may have to get professionals in...just could have done without it after MOT.

Just a quick update - I switched the power off at the mains and opened the control box to double check what the battery looked like. The alarm did not sound

The keypad stayed lit despite full power off...but the power light on the control box went off.

I have ordered the battery from Amazon & am just waiting its arrival. Hopefully it is only the battery, as after opening the front panel I am now confident that I can change the battery

Jo...with a new battery fitted, the removal of the control box panel should sound the alarm.It can be silenced with your user code and then reset.
