hi there was wondering if anyone could tell me what chemical i could use to remove chrome from brass and aluminium much appreciated in advance

Muriatic acid ( hydrochloric acid) can remove chrome from brass but would probably unduly roughen an aluminum base. Mix muriatic acid (available at DIY stores, at least here in the U.S.) at a ratio of 1:3 (1 part acid 3 parts water) in a plastic container deep enough to submerge the item to be stripped. Mix muriatic acid (available at DIY stores, at least here in the U.S.) at a ratio of 1:3 (1 part acid 3 parts water) in a plastic container deep enough to submerge the item to be stripped. The water should be warm but not hot and even then, use it only outdoors or a well ventilated place. Leave the item in the mixture until the chrome softens and begins to peel. You can strengthen the ratio if needed.

The chrome is applied by electromagnetic processes and often involves the electroplating of nickel or other metallic surfaces, to wit; you won't be able to remove. At least not by yourself since removal of nickel is involved and uses chemical that aren't normally available...
