Dripping Cystern.

Our bathroom toilet has a push button flush. Recently there is a minute amount of water running into the bowl from the cystern. I don't know what is causing it or how to stop it. The thing flushes alright. Any ideas gratefully received! Man thanks, Bramley.

Modern cisterns don't have an external overflow. It flows into the bowl. It's simply that your float level is set too high.

Take off the lid and look for a float that rides up the inlet valve (usually). When it gets to the set level, it shuts off the inlet.

The float just needs adjusting so that it stops earlier... before it overflows. They vary quite a bit but the principle is the same. I'd need to see it to tell you how it operates in your case.
