Cleaning Soot Off Walls
1 Answers
hi this is a 2 part question
unfortunately i had a fire in my outhouse yesterday and my lovely brick whitewashed walls are now covered in black soot
so firstly what's the quickest and most effective way of getting rid of the soot
secondly bearing in mind that the wall is brick and if its a v hard / impossible task to get rid of soot could a skimming of plaster be put onto walls without getting rid of soot and would it affect bonding/ adhesion of plaster

In your shoes I think I'd vacuum what I can then get to work with the hot soapy water. Anything that didn't come off earmarked for a new coat of paint/whitewash/whatever.
Or there is always the jet washer.
My pure guess is that as you wet the wall to add the plaster then the soot may not be as big an issue as it'd probably just mix in with the wet plaster. Not that I've ever tried. One way to find out.
