Want to buy my husband a new Router for Christmas. He has an old Silverline Router. Want a bit better quality. He is competent at DIY and woodwork but no expert. Any recommendations from all you DIY enthusiasts would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

My husband swears by Festool. Excellent design, manufacture and after sales service.

I use one of these : http://www.its.co.uk/pd/T4EKPK12-Trend-14-Shank-Router-and-12-Piece-Cutter-Set-Package-_TRET4EKPK12.htm?gclid=CKKP0vjnlNACFYu6GwodrwcKxg or maybe one of these : http://www.its.co.uk/pd/T5EBV2-Trend-14-Shank-Router-_TRET5EBV2.htm. Both of these have a 1/4" shank. If you want a 1/2" shank, then expect to pay a lot more. Try visiting the Trend website, they are renowned for routers.

Google Axminster Power Tool Centre, jam jar.
Put router into the search box.
Choose one and look at the specifications. Their stock is rated as....
Diy, Light Trade, or Industrial.
Diy or Light Trade will suit him well.

Also, they are very good and unbiased with their telephone advice.
Would buy. One with 1/2 inch drive then you collar to take it down to 1/4 inch for finer jobs I bought mine from screw fix but sum times they have them in Aldi
This is not a bad deal depends if its in you budget
