Electrics For Extractor Fan

I made a bit of a mistake when designing my kitchen - i forgot to include the electrics for the extrator fan and i've tilled the whole section where it is. I am going to ask an electiran to come and sort it out for me, but i would like to have an idea about what can and can't be done. Can it be conected up to the lightswich, so when you turn the light on, it will come on as well, or can a near by plug socket be adapted to have a swich for the fan, and a plug socket?

I'm sure that there are all sorts of connection options. Unfortunately if you have already tiled the wall cabling will either need to be in unsightly external trunking, or you go through the hassle of knocking out the tiles in order to put the cable in the wall, then making good and retiling over.

OG is right about the access. However, extractors are often fitted between adjacent wall cupboards. That's an ideal place to run cabling.

As far as the technicalities are concerned, a standard extractor can be run from a lighting circuit. It can certainly be switched from your wall switch by taking its supply from the ceiling light, so that it comes on at the same time.

I wouldn't go for that simply because extractors have their own lights which you may want to have on while the main ceiling light is off.

No problem taking a live supply from a wall socket. Just fit a "Fused Spur" right next to the socket... or anywhere else on the socket ring circuit... maybe in a cupboard hidden away.

thank you so much builder, I don't know what I would do without you. You are right about it being between two cupboards, so can probably run a line though it which will take me to a plug socket behind the fridge and I do have some spare tiles to redo a few I will have to take off. The only thing is that the socket is behind the fridge, 'm goa have to think about what's better, only having it on if the light is on, or having to reach behind the fridge to turn it on

what am I thinking, the extractor fan does have a on off button so I can just leave it on at the wall. I'll defo go for that option I think
