Hi
We have gone onto economy 7 (l have an electric car) but am really struggling to get a plug in timer that will work with the dishwasher.
We have a hotpoint dishwasher probably over 10 years old, but works perfectly.
I have tried about 6 different timers, some even say dishwasher on the list of suitable products it can be used for. This is what happens
The timer will work once and not again
The timer doesn't work at all.
It mystifies our electrician too.
I don't mind spending a little more if anyone knows of a timer that will definitely work, however buying a new dishwasher with a built in timer would not be cost effective at this juncture.
I would really appreciate any advice, other than do the washing up yourself LOL!
Thank you
Gill

At one time dishwashers were the kitchen appliance most likely to catch fire. Both my daughter and her mother-in-law have had dishwashers catch fire. The reason is that the wiring for the switches, always on the door, not the casing, is constantly flexed when opening and closing the door. I would never run my dishwasher when I wasn't near enough to hear my smoke alarm go off.
valid point by bhg but presumably you want to run it night when you are home? We use timers a lot for lights etc when on holidy and have found the newer flashy electronic ones break all the time and are unreliable. The old manual type (similar to what used to be on old central heating systems) that rotate and hit switches are much more reliable. Have you tried one of those?
You haven't bought timers with a 7-day programme and set them to operate one day only, have you?
I use a smart timer that is connected to my wifi and operated by my phone

Thank u for your answers so far. We will be in when it runs, I've only tried the non electronic type and not a 7day timer but a 24 hour one.

A smart timer sounds interesting I'll Google it. Thank you
I suspect the problem might be that when the power is off the dishwasher 'forgets' its programme so when the power comes on it doesn't know what it's supposed to do. Mine certainly loses its programmed if I switch off the mains.
I have old-fashioned timers i.e. the sort where you push/pull the little pegs in/out - cheapos from Ikea and they work the dishwasher and the washing machine all the time without fail.

These are the type I've tried but with no success. I do love Ikea so may pick onew up next time I'm there.
