I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and am thinking of being 'made up' in a local department store so I look my best  (But not mutton dressed as lamb, not so thick as you could scrape it off). I am wondering which you would recommend as the best make up as I will be buying foundation, lipstick, possibly face cream.  Has anyone been 'made up' and who would you recommend, especially for a light, long lasting foundation and good colour lipstick?  I was thinking of Estee Lauder, MAC, Clinique, as I am a 'more mature' woman with dry skin !!

i would recommend max factor, they do brilliant makeovers and have a wedding one they can do, and there stuff is brilliantly long lasting, the facefinity foundation and lipfinity lipstick are excellent, so long lasting!

If you want a more expensive brand i would say Estee Lauder or MAC, Estee Lauder has some good make up artists, check the make up they have on first though!

Clinique are really good, I buy their make up though have never been done instore, they do seem to be really helpful though and know what they're doing!

Yes Clinique were very helpful and gave me loads of facial samples yesterday, told me what foundation to use etc (although I didn't have a make over at the time) but when I asked about lippie, she said (at my age) I should accentuate my eyes but not my lips (eg use a light colour lipstick) so I don't look like the proverbial mutton .. However I want my lips to show not just blend into the background.  In photos I always look like I am half asleep with no makeup on (even tho I have some on).  Any more hints?? Thanks everyone, you are always so helpful. :)
I am a mature woman with dry skin Judie and hate to
look over made up but look death warmed up without it !
Nivea tinted moisturiser is excellent ..gives good coverage. With a bit of bronzey blusher flicked over..this works for me and I achieve what I call a healthy colour!!
N0 7 at Boots have some nice lipsticks .They do one called Tea Rose which is a pinky brown colour ..which is neither too pale or too dark .Also you have to consider your hair colour when choosing your make up. Anyway I am sure you will look nice and have a lovely day.

My choice would be Lancome or Estee Lauder as they are good value, don't need powder and suit my very sensitive skin but.... before you decide to have the full makeover go to any of the 'good' brands and ask the consultants to match your skin and take the mini pots of foundation home to try out.

Putting a dollop on the back of your hand under artificial light does not work. I found this out the hard way many moons ago and spent a lot of money unnecessarily. They will fall over themselves to help you - or should :-)

I have found in the past, I have bought expensive foundation on the advice of the assistant, only to find when I got home, it was too pale and made me look like death warmed up (or not even warmed up) and funny enough my nose always seems paler than the rest of my face !!  So I am a bit wary now. Which ones would give me a sample foundation to try ?
Yes you're right, that's why I always insist on samples to try at home in the daylight. Depending on your store and products available of course, but I know for sure that Lancome, Clinique, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder and Prescriptives have  this service... I hope they do in your area.

Thanks everyone, I am off to my local mall tomorrow to get some samples!

Also consider the body shop, some of them so makeovers, and their make up is fairly priced.

MAC do a really nice job.
MAC do fabulous makeovers but they tend to go a bit heavy on eyeshadow over the top of a natural base, just tell them what you want and you'll look stunning!
Chanel foundations are amazing. The vitalluminere range is great for dry and sensitive skin and looks so natural and fresh and lasts the day. i have both and have finally found my perfect foundation. Clinique lipsticks are great especially the new butter shine ones. i had a great makeover with clinique and chanel. Clarins face creams are great as they are all natural products. have a great time.
