Do Some People Have No Shame?
30 Answers
Bought a really lovely mirror from a local person on eBay. It was always a pick up only item but was not far so I arranged with the seller to collect it this afternoon.
On arriving he asked me to come in where I had to clamber over kids toys, and food and what looked like dog poo squashed into the carpet.
Took me to the dining room where the mirror was still hanging on the wall, was covered in dust and when he took it off the wall and gave it too me the back had the sort of stringed dust that has been there a while, it even left a shape on the wall where it had been.
I was shocked, he knew I was coming, he could have at least given it a wipe down and or put it in the hall ready so I didn't see the rest if the house, he didn't seem embarrassed at all.
If my house was in that state I would be too ashamed to gave anyone around.

Should have had it ready for you taken off the wall cleaned and presentable as you say some people have no shame no excuse for not being cleaned and ready as he knew you were coming to collect.

When I was ill for a long time two or so years ago I was living in squalor simply because I was unable to perform the simplest household tasks. However I kept my pride inasmuch as I would not admit anyone into the house lest they see the devastation. I solved my problem by the simple expedient of hiring a cleaner.
Yes Ducksie the mirror is beautiful, nothing that a good clean didnt solve. (Although I must admit I did take it to the Summerhouse to get the dust off before going inside!)
Anne, I would have been too embarrassed to refuse it.
Baldric, I don't always buy second hand but I like unusual things and sometimes I get things I have never see in the more boring chain shops.

You're lucky it was only dust Darcey, I bought a mirror recently from a facebook selling page, a well to do person as I know from our area, well, a dusting wouldn't have cleaned it, I've tried steaming it, I've done everything with it, I believe she must have had it on a table and let a child play with vaseline or similar on it but took a good pic of it to put online as it was only when I got it home and in the light that I seen the scum on it
Indeed, Ducksie.....I have a fantastic Pfaff sewing machine....was barely used and I got it for half price.....at £1,000.....be a numpty to pay double for the same....and my scope was second hand from a chap who was giving up birding.....much, much better than I'd have got new for the same price...x
