I'm having a new gas central heating system installed tomorrow (radiators, boiler and water tank)
They are starting at 8 in the morning and was told that its an all day job. This might sound like a dumb question to some but will I be without water all day while they carry out the work?
I know next to nothing about plumbing....
Thanks.

On and off. Our new central heating system, like yours, took three days.
You should have cold water, at least to the kitchen taps. Depending how your house is plumbed you may or may not have flushing toilets and cold water in the bathroom.

Thanks ethandron. Have filled a few water bottles just in case (now in the fridge). More worried about flushing my toilet....
Fill all the buckets and bowls you have, maybe the bath too. And pans. Doesn't matter if you don't use them, better to be prepared.

Thanks bhg. I live in a multi story flat. Apparently I have 3 different water supply points. (or so I was told by severn trent water when I applied for a water metre and was turned down)

Thought of filling a bucket but never thought of filling a bath, thanks. Will obviously have to ask them b4 they start work.
Get plenty of beer in, just in case !
Echo advice given -fill all receptacles you have; don't flush the loo until forced on day one (bleach helps).

I'm not flushing my toilet with beer EDDIE ;-)

Always do jourdain :-)
Thanks.
As they were saying in Cape Town, when we were there in January.

If it's yellow, let it mellow
If it's brown flush it down.

Don't forget to fill the kettle. Good luck.

On reflection Tills, think that I prefer EDDIE's suggestion, I'll get the beers in ;-)
No, Nailit. Your water won't be turned off for long. Fill your kettle up. That will do.
Go out for the day, nails. The last thing the plumbers want is you wittering and twittering around them :-)
If the plumbers are half decent you won't be without cold water for very long at all. Sounds more like you're getting ready for the apocalypse.
That's what I thought, Talbot. Under siege! :o)

Cheers Naomi, got no idea how plumbing stuff works.

Witter and twitter Melv? Who? Me? Never witter and twitter....
Sometimes things don't go to plan, best to be prepared. Ours was a total nightmare, which we weren't expecting.
Nailit, I recently had my whole house re-plumbed - new boiler, new radiators - the works. No problem at all. And do bear in mind that the plumbers won't leave the water off for long because they'll be wanting their cups of tea! ;o)
You might need counselling, nails:-)

Got a bit of a 'thing' about having strangers in my home and got a bit of OCD as well re: any mess but I can deal with that. I *COULDNT* deal with not been able to flush my toilet though. That would drive me crackers....
