Need to cut a length out of a skirting board in situ to fit in an artificial fireplace.
How can I go about it without marking the wall please.

Yes, carefully's the only way.
A fine-toothed saw is best. Something like a tenon saw if you have one.

In Chris's first video, it shows the chap jamming a steel chisel behind the board first. That's what I usually do. It lifts the board just slightly away from the wall, to allow the saw to get right through.
Ram the chisel behind the piece of board that is due to come off. That way, damaging the wall with the chisel isn't so important
