Trying to remove a carpet from a concrete floor.
God only knows what its stuck down with, currently using a hammer and chisel to lift it a small piece at a time.
Any advice...
1) on how to lift it more easily
2) on how to remove sticky residue on floor.

Any advice appreciated,
Thanks.

Heat up with the iron.
Put your internet accessing device down so you have both hands free for the task. :-)

Then

Use a heat gun or hairdryer along with a scraper, folding as you go. It might also be helpful to score it into manageable strips with a Stanley knife first.
Finish off with tar and glue remover.
Or, if it's a nylon carpet try a steam wallpaper stripper.

No melted mess then.
I don't think that Nailit will have any use for a hairdryer.

LOL

Thanks for replies, Now trying a steamer.
(Or rather my son is, Im paying him to get it up)
Someone glued a carpet down? Mr Bodget was it?
Horrible job Nails. I don't know why they glue carpet down in the first place. It shouldn't be necessary, unless maybe it's a thin cheap one.

But anyway.......... the glue could be either water-based or solvent-based. Probably solvent.
Try and remove all the hairy bits, just leaving the glue itself.
Do what the others have suggested. Scraping mainly.
Also, chemical paint strippers, or even rent a power scraper.

Do be careful with Doogie's heat gun though. Old solvents are highly inflammable ;o)

Thanks Builder,
dont have a heat gun so no problem there.
The carpet has been used as an underlay, the top carpet just rolled up easily.
Just googled power scrapers. I want one!

Nope, still on it.
Tried Iron, steamer, elbow grease!!!
Whatever its stuck down with is industrial...just ripped a piece up and its taken a portion of concrete with it. Now got a bloody big hole in my floor to deal with.
God, is ANYTHING ever straight forward?

What a nightmare! Would chucking a few buckets of warm water on it and leaving it for a while help do you think? You could try just one bucket in one corner to see says LB hopefully.
