Just A Thought Re: The Pub And The Furure.

Tonight I got the text you cant refuse .. 'Fancy a quickie'
It was from my busty neighbour who lives next door .... no it wasn't !
Now I have your attention, it was actualy an invite from my son to head towards the pub.
The following texts went .. have you booked a table.. yes for 5..00 .. count me in.. pick you up at 4.55.
The end result was, we were in the pub at 5.00. We were allocated a table. We ordered 2 pints using an app, they arrived within 2 minutes. Over the next hour and a half this process was repeated 5 times without a flaw. A masked lady turned up at the table and our only input was to remove the glasses of frothy liquid from her tray.
Our lift home arrived five minutes late .. I may well let the wife off with just a warning!
My observation was .. forget a cashless society .. I didn't even need my wallet and everything went without a flaw .. will this be the way forward after Covid ?
Personally I couldn't imgine things being any easier !

So they proceed to drink.
Then: "...a Glenkinchie whisky for me and one for the giraffe, too" And they keep drinking all evening.
Finally the giraffe passes out on the floor of the bar. The guy pays the tab and gets up to leave. The bartender shouts out,
"Hey! You're not going to leave that lying on the floor, are you?" The guy replies
"That's not a lion, Mac... it's a giraffe."

That Graffe has been on AB a long time, must have sobered up by now.

@ 21.05 .. at what point did I say we didn't talk to anyone ?
Who said we didn't chat to anyone .. we picked up some
work and came away thinking it was an excellent 90 minutes ! .. you dont need to drag it out to class it as quality time. My son works above 90 + hrs a week and for some time I have been banging in 50+.
Dire is not how we would class it !

No it's not the way after Covid. If things seem too good to be true then you're missing something. Exclusively cashless transactions is a highly risky strategy. Plus you would be fooling yourself if you thought you were getting a good feel of how much of your wealth you were spending and at what rate. It's all too easy to buy buy buy when there is no experience of money going out of your account.
I've been using pub "apps" long before Covid came along. The process is excellent. No queuing at the bar; no cash to worry about; no worry of losing your seat if you're alone; no carting beers through the pub to your table. Wat's not to like.
If there are to be any long term advantages to be gained from this fiasco one of them might be that table service in pubs becomes permanent. I'd not advocate making ordering by app or cashless payment mandatory (though I haven't paid cash in a pub since contactless payment cards were introduced). But my days of queuing at the bar are long gone.
