What do you mean by iron as you go?
Question Author
iron as I wear - LOL, with not working I just wash and dry and put away, so when I take out top and trousers for the day I iron that day.

I don't have this iron that long and cos I don't iron that much it hasn't got that much domestic abuse, the little red light flashes. Have cleaned with vinegar and done what I'm supposed to do to get rid of calculation but it's not working.
I would never go back to a steam iron after my steam generator, there is no comparison.

^^^ sorry calcification
Question Author
what do you have ubasses
Same as ubasses
Just a thought, have you got enough water in the tank, on mine the calc clean light will not clear if the water is below a certain level.
Mines a Tefal
Question Author
bobbs - what do you have - I have had Rowenta Steam generator, this one is Phillips Speedcare which is only about 4 years old and hardly any abuse.
Question Author
I have loads of water ubasses as it overfilled a bit there.
Philips perfect care elite.
Okay, try switching it on then pulling the plug out of the wall without switching anything off leave 5-10 minutes and start again. Apparently this is like doing a reboot according to Philips care line.
Steam generators take a bit longer to get up to steam because the tank holds a lot more water. Perfect for doing a lot of ironing in one session. If you only iron a couple of items at a time a steam iron is more practical.
Question Author
fao Bobbisox - am just looking at the Tefal and have noticed like a little container being taken out of the iron - is that a filter or what is it, does it need replacing etc. I have never had one with filter but had heard my neighbour saying they bought one years ago and they had to buy replacement filters. At that time I didn't know what she was talking about.
Question Author
Got my new generator yesterday - Philips, it is the same I did have but a little advanced, but I did not look after the last one regarding calcification but will take care of this one.
I have only a steam iron, but I dream about the steam generator.
Question Author
Lisa - I could never go back to an iron ever. This one I bought was only about £75.
jennyjoan - my iron has recently broken, so I guess I'll try a stream generator instead. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Question Author
You have just reminded me that I have not calcified (sp) this iron since I bought it - so that will be one thing I will do tomorrow
Question Author
fao Lisa - I will give you a link later if I can or tomorrow as computer is playing up.

Mine is Philips HI5917/26 fastcare Compact Steam Generator Iron

I can't believe so many various prices for the same iron - I did say mine was £75 but I actually got it in Argos for £69.99 in March - however they have gone up tremendously. JDWilliams I think just briefly looking there was £79.99 - you can have a look yourself - it has been a great iron/generator.
