//Alter drain pipes on one side of house upstairs and downstairs to allow bay windows to fully open//

That should say -

Alter connection from the drain pipe to the guttering , on one side of the bay windows upstairs and downstairs, to allow bay windows to fully open
Sounds a lot to me - could be done in half a day
Seems OK to me.

Difficult to be exact but sounds like a Days work for a skilled person and a labourer plus parts.

Building materials have shot up in price BTW.
Why on earth would it need two people?

Seems a lot , to me
Get three quotes...then you'll gauge a "reasonable" price.

Thanks for your opinions
Hello Baz.
The truth is, I really hate commenting on someone else's price. Especially as he's seen the job and I haven't.

First off... is there VAT included (over 60 pounds)?
I'll assume it isn't (he's not registered.)
My first thought is that it's about right. Everything costs these days.

On the other hand... semi - all accessible from a ladder - sounds like a day's work for a good handyman.
£20-25 per hour around here. More in cities like London.
It depends on what the downpipe re-aligning entails. "Running outlets" may have to be moved. That may mean new lengths of guttering (I'm assuming it's all plastic.)

Fixing downpipes doesn't take very long, but new pipe and fittings may be needed.
If all goes well, using a one-man-band or a handyman could shave £100 off that.
Since I'm sticking my neck out here, ask around and get another price. It would make me feel better. :o)
I live in a semi and my guttering at the back is not accessible by ladder. Scaffolding is not cheap, does your job need it, Bazille.

Ok thanks

While i try and get some else to give me a price for the job ; would a picture of the drain pipe and attachment to the guttering that needs altering , help ?
A picture always helps Baz, but mainly I'd like to know why the window won't open now.
Question Author
Ok I'll take and put up a picture tomorrow

The windows won't fully open , because the pipe connection from the gutter to the drain pipe is in the way
Doe health and safety play a part in this costing? Anytime I see a person up a ladder these days there's always somebody else keeping it steady.
Question Author
The builder if you're looking in .

Here is the picture .

As you can see the connection from the drain pipe to the gutter on the bay window ;both up and downstairs are preventing the windows both upstairs and downstairs,to fully open .

Thanks Baz.
That is a dopey arrangement.
The downpipe should be one long run from the top bay right to the very bottom... by-passing the lower bay.

Then.............. the lower downpipe should connect into the long one with one of these......

Dropping a downpipe directly into a gutter is not good practice.
Also........ both bays incorporate a "running outlet.
These should be replaced with a "stop-end outlet", so that the outlet is against the wall and does not obstruct the window.

It'll take a bit of lining-up to get it right, but it's easy enough to do.
Roof drainage is simple to get right but also easy to get wrong
It looks a lot but for the amount of work and a one time payment it is worth going with.

Thanks TB

I think i follow what you mean .....but then I'm not 100%

Can i be cheeky and ask if you could do a quick sketch for me please , so i can see exactly what you mean?
