LPG and Natural Gas.

Hi, We live in a LPG only area ( no mains gas supply) and are aware that LPG and Natural Gas cookers have different jets. Can anyone please tell me what happens if you try to run a natural gas cooker of LPG as I was alarmed to find out that one of my elderly neighbours reckons she's got a normal gas cooker (not LPG) and that it works. Can anyone enlighten me please or is she just confused ( she certainly doesn't sound it ). Thanks in advance.

Many but not all standard natural gas cookers can be supplied or converted to LPG. This usually entails changing the jets as the gases have different characteristics and pressures.

Thanks to you all. I know about the jets etc but was wondering about the hazards but that's been answered now. I'll print out the link and show it to her and try and persuade her to get it checked, as she's adamant that it's an unconverted natural gas cooker running on LPG.

It will probably work, but not very well, and with the safety hazards mentioned.

I did have this problem in a new house. The gas jets (or one of them - can't recall) used to roar and would blow out if turned down low.

It took several visits for the engineer (under warranty thankfully) to work out that the installers had forgotten to change the jet(s) to LPG ones

to get the optimum combustion the jets have to be changed. if not i would say there is a very high risk of an accident
