gold paint for wrought iron gates
4 Answers
I have just repainted my black wrought iron gates with black hammerite paint. There is also some gold which I'd like to retouch but I can't find any gold paint which I can use on them. Any suggestions?

Note that on the Hammerite can it says to apply a second coat within an hour. That's because not much will stick to a fully dried Hammerite finish, not even more Hammerite. Otherwise, Hammerite do a gold in a smooth and a hammer finish from DIY stores.
I used to manufacture and fit Wrought Iron Gates, which to be fair, were just steel (not wrought iron) as most are today.
Hammerite is a good paint to use if you are painting them yourself, but the gold tends to come out very mustardy yellow. A good tip is to mix a bit of your black hammered with thinners to make it very thin, and then add this to your gold until you get a nice authentic antique gold colour.
