central heating pipe outside of the house????????

Does anyone know anything about gas cental heating. I have a copper pipe which is supposedly an escape pipe which has been put just above my side porch way outside the house!!!!...........i feel this can't be right because i've never seen this anywhere else before.........can anyone help me on this matter because I did call back the people who fitted my heating not long ago and they said it is fine and nothing to worry about.......i'd appreciate any help. Thank You

If you have a pressurised system (probably, but not necessarily, using a Combi boiler) it is likely to be the outlet to the pressure relief valve in the system. In the event of excess pressure building up (normally above 6 bars), small amounts of hot water would be released from the pipe. If it is this, it should discharge close to ground level. It is perfectly normal and is a must-have for the system to be safe.

Thanks very much buildersmate I was just becoming worried about it thats all. I was told that it was necessary but you never know if your being fobbed off we do have a large boiler running 9 radiators.
