painting over varnish

hi,my kitchen cupboards need a facelift is it possible to paint over varnish as is will take me ages to strip it all off please advise,thanks.

Sure, if the varnish is in good condition. Go over the entire area with fine grit sandpaper and the go over it again with a tack rag to take up the resultant dust. This will provide a surfact to which the paint can adhere. It would be best if you apply a primer first. Some primers are made especailly for this application...
