Electric socket in stud wall
7 Answers
My daughter has just bought a house which has no electric sockets on the upstairs landing. All down one side of the landing are stud walls of bedrooms with plenty of sockets. I intend to drill through somewhere opposite one of these sockets, jump into the back of the existing socket for a new socket on the other side of the stud wall. My question is how to fasten a socket into the wall. She doesn't really want a box stuck out from the wall and would like it to be recessed like the other sockets in the house. Is there a way to do this? Thanks

Don't worry if your right behind the socket the only thing is try to ensure that there are already two cables at the socket as you aren't supposed to spur of a socket that has already been spurred!! It maybe a bit difficult for you to find this one out, but this just ensures you aren't overloading the cable and is good practice! (easy 4 me as im an electrician) I also recommend the dry lining box (as above) as these are easy to install.
