Toilet Flushing
3 Answers
Hello,
I have a new (less than 3 month old) toilet which frequently fails to stop filling causing water to go into the white internal overflow pipe and trickle into the bowl. This wastes water and despite playing and pushing everything a lay person can play and push it still does it at least once a day.
It is not a ball tiolet you can simply bend the ball, but it is pretty much similar to that shown on the link below:

I have tried adjusting the height to no avail. and adjusting the height of the link which pushes the lever up.
The trouble is even if you hold the lever up as much as it will go, water will still drip out until it overflows. Sometimes it shuts off properly sometimes not.
The only other thing to mention is that the refil tube is missing (there is a space for one, but it was missing from day one. I don't know when it does).
How do these plastic things work and how can you fix it?
Thanks

Is that these type of valves dont like too much water pressure as they are very delicate. There would have been a cork screw type device supplied with the valve to insert into the inlet where the pipe union fits to reduce the inlet pressure. If it is missing i suggest you fit one.
Also if it is a push button type opporated valve with a internal cable to lift the valve when pushed, it my be kinked or no free play allowed in it to let the valve close properly.

Thanks for that, there was a funny plastic thing that sounds like your corkscrew thing. I will put that on tonight.
Suggestion 2 on the link is of no help / does not resolve the issue.
I also see I can buy a new bottom feeding inlet from Wickes for 8.99 if it does not fix it. Quite annoying as I was in Wickes on Sunday decribing the issue to see if they had any parts and minimum wage guy told me to see a plumber. Yeah right .
