Is my pee trap working?

When we had a shower installed, there was a pee trap fitted (hope I spelt it right!). Does that mean that when water is emptied from the bath or the basin, there should be no water coming up through the drain hole in the shower? If that's the case mine's not working. Everytime the bath or sink is emptied there's a pool of water coming into the bottom of the shower. Also there's a bit of a smell at times and I'm sure it's from the shower drain hole. Have I got a problem?

The 'P' trap just refers to the shape of it, and no, you shouldn't have any water coming up from it. Try a plunger, I'll bet it's full of hair and gunk ... hope you're not squeamish.
get the Mr Muscle drain cleaner stuff, pour it down the drain and leave it over night. The difference is amazing. I usually only remember to do this once the water is up over my ankles.
