Thanks to edlee and gas man for your recomendations, to edlee first, its not plaster board sorry if i gave that impresion it is an old wall and is made up of a mix of plaster cotton waste,string and horse hair (i think its horse hair) and seems to be in then a levels then a space then a level and so on so if you hit a solid bit great and of you dont well a few anglo saxon phrases could be heard.
Gasman thanks for your advice but i did try that with the same results but it has to be at a certain height,but i think i have done it this time i have tried fram fixers so i hope that this will be ok but thanks to you both for your help
