Kitchen Cupboard Dilema.

Hi, I have a problem with one of my kitchen cupboards closing properly. It used to close perfectly - now for some reason it wont close to the frame, it sort or juts out a bit.

Apparently all I have to do is turn two little screws to fix it! When I have tried this so called fool proof method it just gets worse - where am I going wrong!?

Please can anyone explain the following to me:

1. Which two screws.
2. Do I turn them to the left or to the right.

This'll be a little difficult not knowing what kind of hinges it may have. If it's a simple matter of the hinges being loose in the wood, one can remove them, fill the existing holes with a wood puttly and replace them. If the hinges are a hinge we here in the U.S. call a European hinge then there is a small screw that one tightens. If, when you open the door, it opens to 180 degrees or more the hinge may have small screw in the middle of it holding two ends that slide within each other. The screw may be loose and if so, move the door until it's in the proper place, hold the door in that position as you swing it out again and re-tighten the screw. The two screws are on the inside of the cupboard not on the door part of the hinge. The screws do not on their own adjust the door but release the door and allow you to alter the position of the door. When the door is open and at right angles to the opening you can adjust the door at either top or bottom or both hinges to fit the door in a vertical plane to the carcass.This screw is usually in the middle of the hinge.When loosened the door will now push or pull back to the carcass. Retighten the screw. The other screw allows the door to be adjusted to fit so that the edge of the door is adjusted to fit up to the other door if it is a double unit. Anti clockwise to undo and clockwise to tighten There is no need to remove the adjusting screws.Trial and error should get it right. Only small movement is often required. Once you see what effect each screw has on the door you will I am sure master it.The second of the screws mentioned will always and should appear tight. This screw is usually the furthest of the two inside the cupboard.You will see how it moves the hinge as you adjust. Sometimes it will be necessary to ease the first screw again depending which way the second screw needs to go.Sounds a bit long winded but in principle is easy!!

1. the two screws in question are in line with the arm of the hinge,support the door with one hand and then turn the two screws (one on each hinge) that are closest to the edge of the cabinet anticlockwise as far as they will go. then slacken the other two screws but do not remove.(these four screws may be covered by a small plastic or metal cover if they are just pull the cover off). Remove the door.
2. Check the hinges to make sure they are working properly,replace door onto hinge plates and tighten back screws leaving a slight gap between door and cabinet.
3. Close door check the gap between adjacent doors and adjust by turning either or both the screws nearest to the edge of cabinet. Replace cover plates.

No reply from bossychloe yet, clanad, probably got cramp scrawling inside the cupboard then a cut head from banging it on shelf and the tins that fell of the shelf have resulted in broken foot!!!

Hi, Thank you to everyone for your advice (sorry for the delay in replying but have been on holiday), I am screwdriver in hand and shall now tackle that pesky door with added gusto and confidence!
