Blocked toilet

I have a block in my saniflow/macerator toilet. It is not causing blockages in the sinks and shower, but after sticking several things down the toilet to budge it, it will not clear. Any suggestions which will avoid me calling the plumber?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you cannot simply plunger a macerator unit. and you should never use chemicals on it either.. It will have to be isolated at the fused spur. taken out and then the blockage has to pysically removed by hand as what ever it is causing the blockage will be wrapped and tangled on the mashing blades. Not a very pleasent job i can tell you.

Thanks for your answer, Gasman. The unit sounds like it's still working though, as water from other appliances is going through the pipes with no problem. Could it just be that the toilet is blocked somewhere before the macerator unit?

I Doubt it as these units are connected straight to the tiolet pan so there is nowhere else it could be bloked. Unless you can see it in the u bend of the toilet pan. But then you would have donned the marigolds and cleaned it out by now i would have thought.

Thanks again Gasman. I think my idiot flat mate has blocked it with wet wipes. The bowl does drain slowly after several hours, but fills again with each flush. I mentioned the flow of water through the sinks and showers because our landlord told us that all water leaving the flat passes through the macerator, which led to believe that the unit itself is still working ok. How much do you think the repair will cost? (I assume it's a job only for professionals?)

It is a very simple job realy but very unpleasant. You need to make sure that it is turned off isolated at the electric piont or consumer unit. ( last thing you need is you're fingers missing when trying to carve the turkey). Once you are 100% happy that the electric to the unit is off ( Fuse pulled and trip switch turned off ), best to be safe than fingerless and a new spikey shock style hairdoo.
Then with a mop bucket by you're side and a small cup or container bail out as much water and nasties from the toilet bowl ( pan we call it ) as you can. Then simply using a wide blade flat screwdriver undo the large silver jubilee clip ( metal strap like looking thingy ) that holds the white flexible rubber pan connector to the pan spigot located to the rear of the pan. ( this is the outlet from the toilet ) Peel it back so it is seperated from the toilet bowl. Unscrew the two srews that secure the mascerator to the floor at each side ( if it has any that is i seen many not secured in my time ) and simply slide the unit out far enough to work on it.
Then with suitable gloves on get your hand in there and un tangle the tissue and baby wipes from the blades that you will be clearly able to see just inside the unit where the rubber connector is you have taken off the toilet. Be very carefull around those baldes though sharp !!! Then just slide it back into place. secure it back to the floor and fix the jubilee clip again . Job done and �65-�90 saved on plumbers fees :o) Good luck. and a merry xmas to you.
