Unblocking a sink

What are the best product/solutions to unblock a kitchen sink?

You are best just taking it apart and cleaning the gunk out of it. There are sink and plughole unblockers but they aren't as effective as just poking at it!

Water in the sink, a sink plunger and a wet cloth, (to seal off the overflow hole).

get a bucket underneith the trap and take it off, clean it out then put it back together

I use Mr Muscle Sink and Plughole Unblocker.
Works really well!!

Pour about one cupful of caustic soda pellets (sodium hydroxide) down the plug hole and leave for a couple of hours. This can be bought from hardware outlets such as B & Q. Be very careful as the solution is very corrosive.

Thanks everyone. We took the trap off in the end - our builder had put grout down the sink. Plonker!
