Hi, My dishwasher has been working perfectly but all of a sudden it fails to drain - I have checked the filters etc., and all is spotless - has anyone got any ideas as to why a perfect dishwasher can all of a sudden be very naughty and spoil my whole weekend! Thank you.

suggest you try the waste pipe - sounds like your sink is not blocked either. So i would un-do the waste pipe and check there are no blockages.
get a plastic washing up bowl and pull the hose from the waste pipe and lay the hose into the bowl and see if water comes out. keep it as low as poss to the floor so it can gravitate. get someone to re-start the machine from a new programme, they usually always start by emptying. see if anything comes out. if not, switch off at the mains and blow hard up the pipe. this should gurgle in the machine and may clear a blockage. if all this fails, then probably your pump is either blocked or broken. mine did this and the grid that filters the water inside the machine which you are supposed to keep clean was full of food. so open the door and check the grid also.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

My angel Pie - Please could you tell me how to get to the waste pipe, do I have to pull out the dishwasher (it is integrated) from it's resting place and rummage behind/underneath? Is it simple and straightforward or should I enlist a strong friend?
Thank you.
Can you give us an idea of the make and model please.
just pull out the machine and the discharge hose will be the largest of the two pipes going into the machine. it will be pushed into a waste pipe that runs to the drain somewhere. just pull it out and hold the bowl under it as you lower it to the floor and drain the water away. just lift the hose to stop the flow.

Have a read in the manual and see if it uses a magnetic float to control water. If yes then you may have to liberate it from it's hidey hole ( in the Bosch one I had there was something circular near the mesh filter in the bottom t- ake off lid to hole and wipe the bottom of the float and restart.)
We had the same problem not long back. When I checked the manual it was because the waste hose was inserted too far into the outlet pipe. It only needed to be between 150 and 200mm.
No problems since.
