Has anyone got any hints/tips for boarding the loft? I am only going to fix a few boards down just to give me better use of the storage space. Nothing too heavy is going up there.
You can get pre cut loft boards from the likes of B & Q. They are usually T+G boards so you don't have to do a lot of fixing. Main problem I had was they assume the builders are exact in their measurements and that the joists/trusses you are fixing to are perfectly spaced. They're not! So check the actual span required for each board before carting it up into the loft; you may need to cut a bit off or even fix an extra bit of timber to the side of the joist to support the board where the joists are spaced too widely. Its a good game though!! Have fun.
go fot the cheap option as i did get the 8x4 chipboard for under 8 at B&Q and they will give you 4 cuts free of charge on each board,so get into the loft with the inch tape and give the sizes to saw desk and it only a matter of a box of screws to put them down, pardon the pun but it cuts out a lot of hassle.
do not lay your boards across any wiring. I used spacers to lift the boards a few millimetres. It is not a good idea to cut the joists as this could weaken them
