Fire Flue

I have just removed an old electric fire from my fire place and want to replace it with a wall mounted flueless electric fire. This however means i need to brick up my old fireplace and replaster over the top of it. Does anyone know if there are any regulations for this? I am wondering if i need to block the flue from the top to stop anyting falling down the pipe into behind the wall. Thanks.

If you block up at the bottom as suggested make sure that you leave some form of ventillation about 4 inches up from the hearth. This will prevent damp patches appearing on walls higher up the flue. where it passes through higher rooms. Have the flue swept before you block up. This will lessen any debris likely to fall and why I say put the ventillation in about four inches up so that if anything does fall it will not stop the ventillation from working.

You also want to think about capping the chimney to prevent rain/birds or anything else dropping into the flue.
Again you will need ventilation where it is capped as well as above your hearth as mrpeter suggested.
