dust extractors
Woodworking machines makers say that their machine can be connected to workshop vacuum cleaner. Dust outlets are 100mm and my wet and dry cleaner which I use in my small workshop has 60mm fitting as do most of them. The machine makers and suppliers are not interested so any ideas please. I have two machines with botched up fittings but why do makers give information which is ridiculous? M

Each of my power tools seems to have a different size and shape outlet, from a Bosch planer, (rectangular outlet), to a radial arm saw, (ovoid outlet), to others with all different round tube sizes. And hardly anyone provides any adaptors.
It doesn't help that vacuum cleaner makers don't seem to have standard tube sizes either, though some have more common dimensions than others.
I do so wish they'd all get together and agree on a set of standards. As I see it, two sizes would be enough, one large enough to deal with shavings and another smaller one for sawdusts.
Meantime, it's the botch-up arrangement for my tools too!

Thank you Heathfield. As I thought, and the makers and sellers just are not interested and although I have been retired for for 12 years, as an ex-professional engineer I find the lack of interest by these people is disgraceful .
Fortunately I don't need any further machines so no more botches which I just don' t like. Thanks.

agree with all so far. I have managed in some cases with my tools to convert using plastic downpipe fittings. Round to smaller or larger round and square to round or vice versa. On the end of a belt sander I have fixed a hopper to be just below the height of the sanding sheet at the end and then fixed the dust extractor onto the hopper. This may not solve your problem but may give you another train of thought.
