I have 2 switches that i dont seem to be able to figure out what they do. one is by the boiler itself and has a light that comes on when it is switched on.

the other is a switch in the airing cupboard. the is an in dicator box attached to the tank showing whats heating ( DHW/CH ) with wires coming out and going to a box on the wall. this switch is just above the box on the wall. the lights come on on the indicator box regardsless of whether or not this switch is on.

Any ideas as to what these switches could be.

Another switch in the airing cupboard has a wire going straight into the tank. i'm presuming this is the immersion switch.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Think you are right in the airing cupboard,if so should be wires from one side of switch that connect to the immersion heater(this is usually via a cylindrical shaped block on the top of the hot tank.If the tank is not already full of hot water, switching that switch should heat the tank up and after its been on for 20 or 30 minutes you will probably be able to hear it,
Possibly the other switch controls the central heating pump.If you can locate that you should be able to tell by switching on or off and againbn you can hear a pump running
well the illuminated switch by the boiler should/could be the main power in switch to the boiler and which usually also controls the power to all the ancillary controls, pump, programmer, zone/diverter valves, cylinder stat, room stat etc. god knows what the other switch is.
