where exactly on the boiler do you have to tap it to get it to fire up?

sounds like it could be a sticking air pressure switch, could be the fan not running properly, could be a flue problem, could even be a loose connection on the circuit board, micro switch or other electrical components.

I just tap it on the left hand side half way up ,I think? iv'e not had to do it in one particular spot? It strange it only seems to play up overnight i only turn it down to 18 and its not normally higher than 22??
did you get a heating engineer in to fix your boiler? i would be interested to know what the problem was in the end?
I have a similar problem:
The boiler won't start until I give it a thump on the LH side, then I hear a click, the fan starts & it fires up.
The thermostat or timer turns it off, then I have to repeat the procedure to restart the boiler.
Would I be correct in blamings a sticky thermostat?
