The problem is you can not close off the builders opening ( the hole in the chinmey breast ) or else you will stop the ventilation required for complete combustion and the safe evacuation of the products of combustion. So you can not put you're glass fronted electric fire there.
Hi gucciman, Seems as this is an OF appliance then blocking the hole would be harmfull as it is also the boilers down-draught diverter and designed to be open. The fire spigot does not fill up this hole and there is quite a large gap there around the spiggot. If spillage was to occour then it would still find its way into the room would it not. Even if the fire was still there it would come come back into the room would'nt it. This unit is fited with a ASD So if serviced and the 26:9 are performed every 12 month then all should be OK.
thats great gasman, wasn't sure on that one.
what do you think of the asd's? my old man doesn't rate them at all. he told me about one instance where he was called out to a fire and the radiants were chock full of soot yet the fire had still been working, the only reason the woman called him in was because a lump of soot got inbetween the thermocouple and the pilot and stopped the fire lighting.
