best gas boiler

Hello. Can anyone tell me the best gas central heating boiler on the market . I live with just my wife in a medium sized tree bedroomed semi i would be gratefull for any helpfull advice.

hello an article by users not installers or repairers is sep 07 which ,is all the usual suspects in it ,and its free at your local library
my plumbing lecturer at college says nobody moans about their boiler when it is working but will complain when it needs to be repaired so its hard to get a balanced opinion.
even the better makes in the article break down

whatever you do, do NOT get an Ideal Isar. I work for a housing association and we have these on our estate and we have nothing but trouble with them.
A good make does seem to be Bosch though as they are well constructed (German maybe?)
Another tip I would say is do not get a combi as there is more to go wrong with them!!

thank you terence7556 & defstar for your advice,i will go to the library to look up the article. and i had been thinking along the lines of a bosch boiler, or maybe a vokera as i think this one as a stainless steel heat transferer.

I would recomend Worcester votd best three years running now by CORGI. Woulnt touch a Vokera most of my call outs are to repair them. Valiant are V.good too

Are you an OAP or on benifits?

You can get a new boiler fitted for free even if you're in your own property.
Go to Google & look up 'Warmfront' info is there or the C.A.B.

I agree with the Worcester boiler selection. In a not to big a house something like the Greenstar models such as junior 24.
May I make a cheekyesuggestion. Ask British gas to come to your house on the basis that you need a new boiler(which you do). Let the engineer sort you out a quote in which he will give you the full details(probably Worcester)of the boiler he recommends. You don't have to accept his quote which will probably be at least a �1,000 more than you can realistically get it for. Then go to the Worcester web site and look up the boiler plus bona fide Worcester registered/recommended fitters in your area. Then get estimates from these local companies which will be corgi registered.
I also agree with the Warm Front route if this is applicable.

I should add that I completely disagree with deffstar regarding combi boilers. They are neat solutions for both space and efficiency.
