Black & Decker Dustbuster - Battery Replacement
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the battery on a B&D 'Dustbuster' (or was it 'Bustduster')? Mine won't hold its charge for long now, but it seems a waste to have to buy a new machine when it is clearly only the battery that needs replaced. But then again, even if the battery is accessible, is it possible to buy a replacement, I wonder.

I've never looked inside one but these sort of portable devices invariably use a commercially-available rechargeable battery module, which will probably be soldered in. Assuming you can get inside to look for access, there's no reason not to change it yourself. The place to try for a replacement would be somewhere like Maplin Elecronics. The module will almost certainly say what voltage output (V) and ampere-hour (Ahr) rating it is on the side of it.
I have done it in the past, and its usually only one or two of the cells that have failed. Its a bit fiddly and may not be cost effective. They usually use sub C size and they are linked together by spot welded straps.the number of cells depends on the model there may be 4 or 6.Unfortuneately they are not clipped in to a holder, but rather assembled around the moulded holder. So aside from getting the individual cells you will need to be able to do a bit of fine soldering.I would contact B & D since the newer models may have been made more user serviceable
