I have just finished getting the manky wallpaper off my kitchen walls only to find that there is a sort of wood effect plastic stuff stuck on underneath! No wonder it took me ages to get the wallpaper off,,,I think it was superglued on. Any suggestions what I can use to shift the wood effect stuff as my scraper etc is not touching it.

Don't bother trying to remove the paper. I'd give the paper a rub-down with some fine sandpaper, then cross-line then paper as normal. If you are going to emulsion the walls then it will need double line them. Otherwise the liner will 'open up' at the joints after a few weeks.BTW I'm a decorator.

Thanks but can you explain cross line and double line.
I think carrust means that you should put some lining paper up horizontally (cross line) and then, when the adhesive had dried, (but at least 24 hours later) put lining paper vertically on top - thus you get a double layer. Easy to hang too, because there are no patterns to match. When this second layer is dry, you can emulsion - but I don't know how many coats or whether it would be better to use the *one coat* type of emulsion.

Is that what you meant, carrust ?
Can't offer any advice other than to sympathise with you. Wood chip is a nightmare. My poarents had it up when i was little, No idea how they got rid but some how they did manage.

Its not woodchip....more like sticky backed plastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you might have to consider using a steam stripper (a machine that strips wallpaper by the use of steam....not a strippogram that gets you all steamy...lol). You can buy a good quality one (say a Bosch) for about 35-40 in the diy stores or you might be able to hire one from a hire shop.
