I'd like to try DIY walking sticks. I'm have some lengths of cut and dried timber, hazel & birch, but they are all slightly warped (probably caused when drying out). I would appreciate any suggestions on how best to straighten these out.
The way it is done is either by strapping it to a metal pipe while it is growing or steaming the length of wood in a tubular steam oven and then clamping the limp stick to a former to form the bent handle and straighten the stick.
Soak the wood (after bark is stripped). When pliable dry between thick cardboard (to absorb moisture) mounted on pallets which can be weighted, if necessary.
