I watched a makeover programme yesterday where they painted the cork tiles on their kitchen floor. I would like to do this but they never said how to do it? Any suggestions?

Did they look OK, sounds ghastly to me?
If the cork is shiny finished, rub it with glasspaper to roughen the surface first. Coat with wood paint - proably satin finish would be best of a colour to your choosing.

But I agree this doesn't sound like a good idea in terms of taste. These makeover programmes have a lot to answer for.
Hi crapmemory, if you do decide to paint over cork tiles you will need to make sure that there is no grease on the tiles before you start as the chances of any paint covering this is slim and it will end up looking terrible. Have to agree with others on this thread though, it doesn't sound like good idea. Most of these so called makeover programs end up making more work for you in the future. One that springs to mind is sixty minute makeover. How can you decorate a room or sometimes a house in one hour. Used to take me longer than that just to sand things down in one room LOL.
