Security Tag left on
11 Answers
My wife has just returned from shopping with a blouse and she's noticed that the girl who served her on the checkout left the security tag attached to the blouse. It must have been deactivated somehow as the alarms did not go off when I passed through the detectors at the exit doors!
The tag is a piece of double layered plastic about 65mm x 60mm with a dome slightly off centre on the upper section. The blouse is attached to it by some sort of pin that goes through the garment into the dome. The pin has a metal dome on it and is around 12mm in diameter.
Can anyone tell me how to detach this tag. I don't want to force it or try to prise it off as I'm afraid of damaging the fabric. The shop is some 20 miles away and I won't be able to return there until next Saturday at the earliest.
Thanks in advance.

My daughter got a pair of pyjamas for Xmas with one of these things attached and it says do not attempt to remove as it will release a liquid which will ruin them. Obviousy we would take them back even without a receipt but unfortunately, they came from Woolworths!
I might take them to Asda and see if they can help.

Geemac is correct in that forcibly removing the tag will result in dye being released from the tag, ruining the garment. (I believe that crims get around this by placing the stolen garment in a freezer before removing the tag).
This has happened to me. So that the store did not think I had just returned with the receipt and picked up a duplicate coat, I left the coat in my car explaining to shop staff what had happened. Fortunately the cash register was close to the door, staff could witness me entering the store with the coat. They happily removed the tag and apologised for not removing it at the time of purchase.

I bought a bra that, when I got home, saw the security tag was still on it. How it didn't set the alarm off I don't know. But when I returned it, the alarm went off as I walked in the store. I had the receipt, so all was well with it. They took it off but couldn't tell me why it didn't go off in the first place.
this has happened to me too, from woolies. I just made sure that i walked straight to the till, so that if they questioned it, they could see on the security cameras, that i hadn't picked up another.
they were happy to take it off and didn't seem bothered!
You could always phone the store on Monday, explain to the manager that you can't get there till next week.

Thank you all for your very useful advice. I've looked at the tag closely and it doesn't seem to have an ink/dye reservoir on it, but I don't think I'll take the risk - I watched a couple of horrendous videos on Youtube which showed what could go wrong with ink tags although my tag is different in design and shape.
I may well phone the store on Monday as crisgal suggested and ask them if I can return it later in the week.
Thank you all for taking the time to help. It's much appreciated.

The same thing happened to me, i bought clothes for my holidays and when I got to America realised there was a tag on it!
I just prised the dome bit off with a pair of household scissors and eventually the plastic gave way and I was able to pull the pin through the hole that was made by it already.
I've heard the story about the dye, but never actually heard of it happening to anyone, makes me wonder if it's just a scare story!
