Hi,hope I am posting in the right place. I am not getting any hot water from the boiler, the CH seems to be working O.K. but the water just runs cold, maybe gets slightly warm for a few seconds then back to cold again. The green light isn't coming on, (it is marked demand) but the pilot light is on. Any advice please, I am getting desperate. Rosy

Sounds as though the diverter valve is kaput!
Call out an engineer...if you don't have a maintenance contract it's gonna be expensive.
Sorry.
Had to replace ours last year cost us around 100
if the demand light is not coming on then it sounds as though the boiler is not recognizing that a tap has been opened so it could possibly be a fault with a flow switch of some sort depending on what type that boiler as.

does the main burner come on when you open a tap? if it does then yes the problem is the diverter valve.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. We have found that we can get fairly hot water by having the CH on, ( seems back to front to me?) I don't know about the main burner coming on and as the boiler is up in the loft I will have to wait until someone can turn a tap on downstairs to find out, so I will post later. Rosy

Yes the main burner does come on when I turn the tap on!! So I guess that's it then, it must be the diverter valve. Problem now is - where do I find a plumber????(No one turns up in my area usually!) Thanks again for all help, Rosy
Look in the Yellow Pages for a C.O.R.G.I registered installer. The Gas Board have a standard charge of 175 for a one-off visit (I think parts are included),

After its fixed, get yourself on a contract with British Gas for 16 per month.

Thank you Tizzi for your advice, but the combi is about 14years old, so I don't think I will be able to take out a contract now. I am not grumbling tho' as it hasn't cost me a penny up to now! Rosy
14 yrs without a repair is incredible for a combi boiler !

if your in the birmingham or surrounding areas then give me a shout.

to change a diverter valve we charge around 125 but it very much depends on what make and model boiler it is.

the only thing you could do temporarily is to shut off the heating flow and return valves and then see if the hot water gets hot enough, if it does then its definately the diverter valve at fault

Thank you gucciman for your advice, sorry we are in the north east otherwise I would indeed give you a shout! Can I add that in all those fourteen years we have never even had it serviced either, not even a duster on the inside, so I really can't grumble, can I? I have someone (hopefully!) coming to look at it tonight. Thanks again Rosy.
I have the same boiler but balanced flue.Same as you had it in for 14 yrs and hardly touched it. All it wants is a new diaphragm fitting, dead easy on these boilers 20mins max 35 for a diaphragm repair kit and labour.
