years ago we bought a small 'mahogony' look bookshelf which is just like chipboard with a covering of fake mahogony... i wondered if i could paint it ...how would i go about this, would i need to sand it first..or could i just emulsion/paint it?? any ideas lol

i would give it a light sanding then use a couple or maybe more coats of primer first then your top coat of paint, you may have to do more than one coat of top coat too
