Kitchen Light bulbs blowing

I have recently installed &two light fittings from B&Q in my kitchen. They both hold a set of 4 GU10 (240V)&50W Halogen bulbs. Ventilation should not be a problem as they are not recessed into the ceiling (the sit on adjustable arms). The problem is that the bulbs in the kitchen rarely last more than 3-6 weeks. I have tried Philips, B&Q and Wickes bulbs. The Philips ones lasted longer but still were not in for that long. I never had this problem prior to installing the light fittings.

we had a similar problem with some light fittings in the hall and on the landing, the bulbs were supposed to last x amount of hours and never did. we worked out that with the halogen bulbs you shouldn't handle them directly, as the natural oil/grease from your skin affects their lifespan. We use kitchen towel when handling them now and that seems to have cured the problem and they now last ages.. we you using these bulbs vefore, if so then maybe the light fittings are faulty

Before we had standard light bulbs. They would last a lot longer. I can't see what difference the light fittings make because it's simply a bunch of wires to a connection block! I use kitchen roll to handle them as well but doesn't seem to make any difference.

I would certainly expect more of the Philips lamps. Why not write to their lighting division and see what they come up with?

It is not uncommon for people to experience problems with these types of light fittings, they are extremely temperamental. In all fairness though they should not go as quickly as 3 weeks. The answer that says about not touching the lamps is completely inaccurate and is just a coincidence. The bulb in dichroic/halogen lamps is actually encased inside the lamp so its impossible to touch it. Have you considered changing over to LED's they will still fit a GU10 mount, come in a variety of colours and they use about 1/10th of the energy of a dichroic/halogen. They are slightly more expensive but will last an eternity by comparison.

getting exact same problem in kitchen, is it possible for the mains supply to be inconsistent and cause prermature blowing of these bulbs? 

its a new house so i assume all is o.k. though.

have same bulbs in study and in a bedroom and not one has blown yet
