Bulbs keep blowing

A few months ago I had a new light installed in my Bathroom. The light takes 4 x G9 (I think) Bulbs, but they keep blowing. At first I thought it might be because the original Bulbs would be a cheap make, so I went and purchased 20 x Ever Ready Bulbs in November, and now I only have one left. Someone suggested that it might be because I only live 100 yards from the Electricty Sub station and they sometimes increase the voltage in the mornings to cope with the addional requirement in power. Does this sound feasable? We had a new light fitted in the Kitchen at the same time, and I am having the same problems, although the Kitchen Bulbs are different. I cant remember which Bulbs the Kitchen Light takes, but they are the spotlight type bulbs. All other lights in the house seem ok even though they are also new. My house was built in the 1930's and the Electrics all look very old, so maybe it is a wiring problem, but I don't want to think about the cost of a rewire at the moment.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Are the Bathroom lights Halogen Bulbs ?
Try a lower Wattage rating for each Bulb and see what happens, same in the kitchen.

I don't know whether this will help as I am not sure whether you are using the small bulbs which come with a transformer, or whether you are using ordinary light bulbs but I have a fan/light on my lounge ceiling and this used to go through bulbs like there was no tomorrow. I assumed that there was a fault on the fitting so I returned it but the same thing happened and I spent a fortune on bulbs, that is until I decided to change the bulbs for the low energy ones. I don't particulary like these bulbs as they don't give out the same lighting unless you purchase the new ones which are a lot more expensive. I have had these bulbs in my light for over 10 months now whereas I was replacing them every couple of weeks before this. Regards, John

In car parlance, blowing bulbs on a regular basis usually meant a bad earth connection. I've just had the electricians in to my place here in SA because I'm selling my property but they wouldn't issue a compliance certificate until a couple of light fittings (one with a fan) were earthed properly ... I'm sure a good 'sparkie' can help you with your problem over in the UK (I was going to say one who knows his AC/DC ... but would this be PC in this day and age?). Good luck 36teak36
