any advice please - got a chest of drawers and due to overstuffing and general bish bashing about they have all but fallen apart - now they are made basically out of chipwood with white plastic type covering on the outside, however i need to know the best glue to patch them back together i know super glue is no use not flexibel enough etc.... someone suggested UNIBOND anyway could i have some other options or advice you good people? thanks so much xx
The strongest glue I`ve ever used is `Gorilla Glue`. Bonds: Metal, Stone, Wood, Ceramics, Foam, Glass, Concrete, anything. 100per cent Waterproof. Be sure to follow the instructions.
Good quality Woodworking adhesive (you do not need the waterproof one) Plenty right in the joints, wipe offexcess with damp cloth, clamp up and do not handle for 24hrs. Use panel/moulding pins, too where needed.
A small bottle of Evostick Wood Adhesive from Focus, B&Q, etc ...
Something made up to clamp the parts while adhesive drying for 24hrs.
Rest as I said above x
I *wood* :) go with PVA - if you try and do it with superglue, you'll use tons of the stuff as most of it will soak away into the chipboard.
Epoxy resin (eg. Araldite) will do the job.
Sometimes I am asked to repair drawers which the bottom has fallen out of...sounds a bit like yours.
What I do is clean up the edges of the fibreboard/chipboard and get it to all clip back together.
Turn the drawer upside down and run a bead of silicone (about 6mm) all the way around the base...making sure it covers the sides as well...wet your finger and wipe it into the corners...put a little weight on it, a book or something to keep it in place, if it has bowed.
When it has dried turn it over and do the same with the inside.
