Check the fuse box, Fiona - and you dont need to shout, my dear - we can hear you..LOL
Check the fuse for the upstairs lighting circuit
If you went to turn on an upstairs light and a bulb blew, it would trogger the fuse for that section of the house to trip off for safety - just switch it back on - change duff bulb for new one and hey presto - you will see the light.
Probably a circuit breaker tripped rather than a fuse.

In our house the CB trips most times when a bulb blows.

Yeah, if the fuse was troggered you would have real problems.
Had a few queens troggered in my day, Panic - and yes you are right - circuit breaker/fuse thinga ma jiggy wiggly thing - i get my gimp, Dolph to fix it
