I have had a quote for cavity wall insulation and it includes £31.00 for a gas vent in my boiler cupboard. My boiler is a floor mounted balanced flue boiler and as such i don't understand why it would need an external vent as it takes the combustion air from outside.

The ventilation is for the compartment not the boiler. However compartment ventilation does not need te be taken from outside, and can be achived by having high and low vents in the compartment door.
